Little Gransden Show 2003
Little Gransden Show Report and Pictures By The Blue Max.
A bright sunny day and a trek to the Little Gransden Classic Aircraft and Cars show. This reporter was somewhat delayed on the way down due to two big lorries carrying precast concrete slabs and escorted by the boys in blue - 25 miles at 30/40mph not very nice when one is trying to get to their favourite show. The upshot of this was that I arrived fairly late and was thus not able to park on the club stand.
Still I made the best of it and settled down to what was going to be an enjoyable day, first though it was the usual cup of hot coffee and a bit of a stretch, mini seats are not the most comfortable at the best of times. I'd bought along Bertie the new aquisition to my fleet of minis. It had only be delivered to me on Saturday morning resplendent in its new coat of paint. The rest of the day was spent by bolting back all the bright work, number plates etc.
The show was already packed with classic cars, trade stands, craft stalls and people milling around all over the place. With the flying part of the show scheduled to start at 13:30 hours meant there were a few hours to while away. This was spent chatting to other club members and endulging in some overt and clandestine photography. I'm sure most of you didn't know that my lens was pointed at you - just wait until the next magazine lands on your doorstep!
The magic started promptly at 13:30 with some stunning arobactics by Maurice Hammond in a YAK trainer. The engine of his plane has a lot of torque and he was able to hang on the prop several times (bit like a Helicopter). We had a display by some Tiger moths, Turbulent airplanes powered by VW engines, a Bell 47 helicopter dressed up in MASH colours (hit 70's T.V. programme). Later a thrilling display by YAK trainers. To end the day the Battle of Britain flight, represented by Spitfire and Hurricane fighters made several passes overhead. Finally Maurice Hammond in his beautifully restored P51 Mustang fighter thrilled the crowds with a stunning display.
In conclusion a wonderful day out and one that I shall attend again next season.
