Who are the Blue Nose Poets?

Blue Nose is a national poetry organisation, based in London UK, which provides workshops, cross-artform events, residential courses, platforms for new writing, correspondence workshops, poetry competitions and services to schools.

The Blue Nose Poetry group was formed in 1988 by a group of North London writers. The Blue Nose Poets are Mario Petrucci, Sue Hubbard and Denis Timm. You may have seen an example of Sue's poetry in the Imax tunnel at Waterloo, London.

We are often asked, why 'Blue Nose'? Our first venue was the Blue Nose Café in Mountgrove Road, Highbury, north London, hence we were 'The Blue Nose Poets'. Sadly, the café went into liquidation in 1991, and we had to move on. However, through the various venues that we have occupied since, we have retained our original and rather distinctive name.

We are funded by the London Arts Board to produce high quality live poetry events at venues around London, as well as a programme of workshops at the bookshop. We run regular international poetry competitions. Our aim is to bring new audiences to poetry by forming collaborations with groups working in other areas, particularly the visual arts. We run an annual poetry competition with the environmental group Common Ground, and a popular programme of residential courses at the Abbey, Sutton Courtenay. For 1999, Blue Nose has introduced correspondence workshops.

All of our events are open to beginners and more experienced poets. It is our aim to be accessible to everyone and we pride ourselves on the professional but friendly atmosphere at events.
